Worship Confessional 03.29.09

This week I wanted to share a little about our Saturday Night Praise service. It takes place in a small stone walled chapel so my approach to the music plan is different then Sunday's sanctuary experience. My approach is to make this more of a worship than praise service. It's certainly more up front and personal. This week I really felt the spirit and enjoyed the feel...

O Church Arise [Getty,Towend] 'Db' - this was a new one for us, one we'll continue to build on through the next few weeks.

Beautilful One [Hughes] 'G' - a great piece of work and also a standard for us.

Beatiful Savior [Traditional] 'D' - the congregation really lifted with this one, we haven't sung this before in this setting.

Praise The Father, Praise The Son [Tomlin] 'C' - I lowered the key again, this time from 'D' to 'C', and had a much better response.

Message: Genesis 2:15-25
-----

Rising [Baloche] 'E' - we hadn't done this in a while and it felt fresh again.

Worship Confessional 03.22.09

Not the best of days for me personally, I was flat and a few of my team seemed to be in the same place. That being said I really liked this music plan. The songs flowed well. Including the new stuff. I thought the congregation picked up the chorus of Praise The Father very quickly.

I Know Who I Am [Houghton] - A
Because Of Your Love [Baloche] - G
He Saved Us To Show His Glory [Walker] - G
Say So [Houghton] - C
Thank You For Loving Me [Walker] - G
-----
Message John 3:14-21
-----
Praise The Father, Praise The Son [Tomlin] - D

Worship Confessional 03.15.09

Today was a little different than usual. We had two guests [a pianist and a singer] from out-of-state and that made for a stressful rehearsal. We probably would have done ourselves a favor by simplifying the new arrangements. Lesson learned! We never did get a complete run through but the team has adapted well over the past year to being relaxed about following me and flowing where the spirit leads. This morning was one of those occasions and God's gifts were on display.
I'm not sure why but I just felt a calm over me all morning. What a wonderful way to lead. Leading with a clear head and calm disposition really has it's benefits. There were more than a few moments this morning that needed my attention and God gave me the right words to say. That can only happen when we are aware enough to allow Him to speak through us. Praise Him!

Because of our guests, this was more of a Gospel tinged music plan.
We started off with a medley of songs that we knew well...

You Are Good (Israel Hougton)
Say So (Israel Hougton)
Friend of God (Israel Houghton)
I introduced this song with a verse from "What A Friend We Have In Jesus"

Name Above All Names (Martha Munizzi)
Trading My Sorrows (Darrell Evans) - We did the Israel Houghton arrangement.

Message: Matt. 5:13-16

I Need You To Survive (Hezekiah Walker)
He Looked Beyond My Fault (Dottie Rambo)

Worship Confessional 03.08.09

Sound system gremlins, a time change, and bugs... what a recipe for disaster. At least on paper it is, but that was not the case this morning. On a day when our senior pastor was giving a state of the church message, it looked early on like the praise team was in for a long day. The time change got us off to a little later start than usual. During rehearsal our monitor system was just plain out-of-whack. To make matters worse our drummer was under attack all morning from those"stink bugs" which seem to be everywhere anymore. But as has been the case in the past we were not swayed by the circumstances surrounding us. The spirit was ever present and we had yet another engaging worship and praise experience. Blessings to our sound tech who is committed to making us as comfortable as possible.

A New Hallelujah [Smith]
Today Is The Day [Brewster]
Say So [Houghton]
I Am Your's [Mann]
A Growing Follower [Mann]
The Stand [Houston]

Message: Mark 8:34-38

Worship Confessional 03.01.09

We're in the beginning phases of a series on "Radical Abundance" ... asking the question which God do you pray to? Our Youth Pastor [Mark] delivered the message in his usual amusing and passionate way.

We were missing six team members [mostly singers] but still had enough gifts to lead with vibrancy. We introduced two new songs "Say So" and "The Stand". A little dangerous but the spirit was with us. I prayed all week about this and felt like it was the right choice.

All About You [Ratliff-Cruse]
Hosanna [Fraser]
Say So [Houghton, Gungor]
Friend of God [Houghton, Gungor]
Blessed Be Your Name [Redman]
The Stand [Houston]
-----
Message Theme: [John 14:5-7]
-----
He Reigns [Furler, Taylor]
