Have you ever underestimated the difficulty of your music plan? I really put a heavy load on my team today. I thought we'd be fine but there were two songs that just needed a lot more attention then I thought they would and this made things a little edgy for me today. In the end, as is usually the case, all was well with the music and message connecting and the congregation engaged.
We opened for the first time with "Sing, Sing, Sing" [Tomlin] a song that I've been doing for a few months at our youth service. The original key of 'E', which works great with the kids, was a struggle that early in the morning and will have to be dropped for this service [especially if I want any men singing].
Call to Worship - Dr. J.
Our theme today was "Being Earthy" so we did "All The Earth Will Sing Your Praises" [Baloche] 'E' and ran this into "All Creatures of Our God and King" (Trad) 'E'. We did this with an arrangement loosely inspired by and old Sheryl Crow song "Can't Cry Anymore".
We introduced "God You Reign" [Brewster] 'D' today and after teaching the chorus had a great response to it. At the end we did a little meditative verse of "Jesus Shall Reign" [Trad] 'D' before returning to the "God You Reign" chorus.
We celebrated communion today with a focus on inviting the Holy Spirit to come. I chose "Holy Spirit Come" [Walker] 'C' which we as a church relate to and sing well.
Message: Luke 14:7-11 "Being Earthy" ... Dr. J.
We closed with "All The Saints Join In" [Walker] 'E'. This is a favorite of ours, one we haven't done in a while, and it had lots of energy today.
Funny how as long as the spirit's right... it's all good!
Pray on,
Eddy
