Start!

Hi Friends,

This afternoon as I write, the January '17 chapter is coming to a close, and what an interesting month it's been. I found myself playing a couple of benefits, a recovery concert, a night of worship along with a handful of house church events, not to mention presenting and receiving and award at the Kindred Awards. I even had time to fit in a couple interviews. Yes, it's been a blessed start to the year.

A friend of mine recommended a book called 'Start' by Jon Acuff. In it there's this simple but powerful quote, "You and I can't control the finish line. But we can control the starting line." I've taken that to heart as the new year has kicked in by spending quite a few hours in the studio working on a concept album that was inspired by the works of a Philly artist, 'Thomas Eakins.' The sessions will be put on hold as I travel a bit, but the energy created by diving right into some new sounds has been exciting considering the often dreary winter season.

What is it that you haven't started yet? What is it that you need to dig into? What is it that you've been putting off? Proverbs 13:4 says, "The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich." I encourage you to start whatever it is that you need to do. Do it with God's blessing and realize your dreams... "Seize the Moment"

'Hope Love Joy Peace' won 2016 Christmas Album of the year at the Kindred Awards last month and throughout February will be on sale at 33% off!

On the journalist front, check out Americana Music Magazine they published a real nice interview with me last month.

On Thursday, February 09, 2017 a portion of 'The Consequence' album release event from Karen's Place back in November of 2016 will be aired on WBPH (TV60) 7:30pm.

I'm really humbled by the fact that for most of the month of January, 'The Consequence' has been charting in the top ten on Christian Music Weekly. If you haven't yet picked up a copy please do!

Sway on...

Hi Friends,

The New Year always brings with it a fresh start, a new beginning. As we wake on January 1, we're the barers of an unblemished calendar. Last years's cancellations, postponements, and rescheduled events have all passed away; behold, new life has come... and it's beautiful!

So how will this year differ from the last? Will you continue in the same ways that didn't bring success, fulfillment and happiness...or will you choose a different path, one that might lead you to a more compassionate, loving and peaceful existence?

I guess my point is that we are all growing individuals. Growing in age yes, but in experiences, and prayerfully we are also growing spiritually on our faith journey. As I look back over last year's calendar, I can see a few areas that could be improved, not major changes, but changes that could create major differences in how I can become more Christlike.

As we move into 2017, let's challenge ourselves to sway the consequences more often, maybe even develop a few good habits. I for one could use another good one to help balance out all of my bad ones, just ask my wife.

I'm praying for all of you, anyone and everyone who has come in contact with me this past year and in the past, we have work to do... sway on!

After a few weeks of laying low, I'll be back at it in January supporting the The Consequence album. I'll be performing, speaking and leading worship in the tri-state area before heading south in February.

A limited number of Consequence String necklaces are still available. They were made from the guitar strings that were used to write and record The Consequence album. They can be purchased through my Store and also at any live event.

We Are Loved, By Love Himself!

Hi Friends,

Welcome to another Advent season. I know for a few of you it's your first, and that really makes my heart warm this year. As we enter this time of expectant waiting, let's continue to trust in the One who is in control of things; take the time this year to revisit why we can have hope; how we can experience the transformational love of God; the joy of Christ's birth, and through recognizing God's presence among us, the peace that surpasses all understanding. We are loved, by Love, Himself!

The Release

Every time I release an album I experience some of the same kinds of emotions. There's a natural separation anxiety that builds up as the drop date draws near. Then there's the excitement surrounding the pre-release interviews, the reviews, and the rehearsals for the live performances.

If I'm honest, the songs that inhabit a project are reminiscent of my children. I spent a great deal of time preparing my daughters for the world and then at some point I had to let them go. Likewise the songs have gone through many stages from conception to mastering and at some point they have to be released to find their way to you and others.

So here I sit again, at the end of the pre-release month, and another collection of compositions are ready to be made available. The truth is, artists create to move others to a response, to move them emotionally, to move them spiritually, and that's exactly what my hope and my prayer is as The Consequence is released this month.

The quest to live a loving and compassionate life can be challenging at times. Each day’s opportunities and barriers are different, but the power of love is unmatched, and there in lies the journey of this album. Yes we have dark days, but love will see us through them. These songs are the follow up to Dig Love, they continue down the peaceful path of a loving believer, a believer with a child’s mindset where anything is possible.

I'll be heading north the first week of November and I'm really looking forward to the rehearsals for The Consequence album release party on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Karen's Place in Doylestown, PA. Joining the combo that evening will be Baz McGuire, Liz Collins, Kelly Deaver, Ricky Blue and Jesse Shultz.

The new Worship Circle residency at Daniel's Den Cafe will begin Saturday, November 12, 2106, while the Junction Music series will continue Saturday, November 26, 2016. We hope to have the opportunity to share with all of you.

The Constant

Hi Friends,

Well the arrival of fall finds me leaving town for a bit. I'll be heading south for all of this month and maybe a week or two in November. Experiencing the autumn season away from home will be something new. It seems I've always been up north in the past, so I'm curious as to what I'll miss, and how it'll sit with me.

In this season of my life I find myself becoming more aware of the smaller things, the simpler things. God in His own magnificent way has created so many little intricacies in our minutes, hours, and days. It astounds me. I get overwhelmed just imagining them.

The fact that we're unable to take it all in at one time, only creates the ability to revisit it with fresh eyes, ears and minds everyday. The change of seasons has always helped to bring this to the forefront for me.

William Plumper wrote, “In all earthly affairs change is the order of things. The winds, the tides, the seasons, the face of nature, and even friends change, but in all our calculations we may rely on the immutable holiness, justice, and goodness of God."

Yes, I'll admit it. I love change! It forever inspires me, but through it all, it's what's constant that allows me to enjoy it. In Hebrews 13:8 Paul writes, , "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."

Through the calendar changes, through the turbulent changes in the news, through the challenging changes in our world, and on our home front, remember God is constant.

October Notebook

I'll be welcoming the new month with a pair of dates in the Virginia Beach area, before heading over to Nashville for the IMEA Awards. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in getting me nominated for a couple of awards.

The Consequence Album Pre-Order will begin on October 11, 2016. This has been a long time coming and I'm excited about hearing from you as you get a chance to listen to the first single. As always I look forward to you sharing your thoughts.

My schedule shows me taking a few weeks off toward the end of October. My hope is to just lay low for a bit to recharge before November's album release. We'll see how that works out.

The new Worship Circle residency at Junction Music was a success last month. We experienced a beautiful warm and engaging night of free, spirit led, worship. Watch for the return in November.

A cool little side note, if you've seen the History station's show American Pickers, I'll be performing in house at their store, Antique Archeology, in Nashville on October 8, 2016. Who know's what I'll bring home!

Get Close!

Hi Friends,

I'm writing this on the first day of summer and I've been overwhelmed with the weather we've had the past few weeks. The cool nights are a thing of beauty. They bring back so many youthful memories. Even the sun has dominated most our days filling them with a soft dry breeze that always inspires.

Psalm 74:17 reminds us who is responsible for the cool nights and gentle summer breezes. It's God who desires to have those early evening conversations with us; to peacefully share times of fellowship and prayer; to join us in the awe of a beautiful sunset.

I'm scheduling more time with Him this summer, I encourage you to do the same. Share a moment, be in conversation, get close!

July Notebook

One of the joys of any creative is having others inspired or touched by their work. So I'm humbly excited to announce that three albums (hard copies) sold out in the month of June. The result will be a compilation of the most engaging songs from those albums on a new project called Re:Prize. The album will be released in September. Last month also marked the beginning of a new relationship with MTS Management. I'm very excited to be part of their creative family and look forward to their friendship and partnership as we journey on.

No Depression, the Journal of Roots Music, published a great interview back on June 16. Their support has been greatly appreciated. Check it out here!.

I'm also looking forward to doing a live in studio segment on ABC's Good Day PA on Friday, June 1 at 12:30pm.

The unexpected September release of Re:Prize has shifted a few things. The Consequence being one, has now been rescheduled and has a new drop date of November 8, 2016. In the meantime, take a listen to Evanesce and let me know what you think.

Molly Pocket

Hi Friends,

This past month marked the loss of our dog, Molly Pocket, a faithful family member for just over eighteen years. Never was there a better family companion. My how we're going to miss her. There's going to be a painful silence around the house for the immediate future. She went to her end with a tired and ready disposition. Her last twenty-four hours were comfortable, but telling as to how her health and strength had diminished. She left a beagle sized void in all of our hearts but left us with a vault of priceless memories. She trusted me, felt safe with me and I know loved me… and she'll forever howl in my mind, wiggle at my arrival, and be the jingle in my day.

What a beautiful display of unconditional love. One we were blessed with for what seemed like a lifetime; one that as powerful as it was, pales in comparison to our Father's. We live in a world that constantly battles for our attention, and the result is that we become blinded to the blessings that are poured out on us each and everyday. The month of June celebrates Father Day ..we'd do well to celebrate it everyday of every month.

The Abun-Dance

Hi Friends,

As I write this I've just returned from a four day road trip through Upstate New York and Pennsylvania. While driving through this beautiful landscape I came to realize the abundance in my life. I was awakened to the mountainous blessings that surround me every single day. I was embarrassed by the amount of comfort I took for granted. Enough that I spent a good deal of my time contemplating how I would share the clarity that was revealed. Thus the title 'The Abun-Dance' ...coming to you on an album sometime in the future.

So this month as we enjoy the beauty of blossoming flowers, warm breezes, and visions of summer vacation, I challenge you to take the time to embrace the abundance in your life, and to give the appropriate thankfulness to it's creator.

If all goes as planned, the recording of 'The Consequence' will be completed by May 5th and will move to the mastering stage. The completion of any project always brings with it a bevy of emotions and this one will be no different. Check out another bootleg recording from the sessions on the website.
