I was struck the other day with the beauty of an old hymn. The melody, the harmony, and the text were so spiritually aligned it clung to my heart all day long.
I suppose it shouldn't have surprised me. There are examples everywhere of the hidden beauty and value of things gone past.
The thing is, quite often these gems are lost or thrown away without ever being recognized. Our rush to get the newest thing can sometimes cause us to hurry past yesteryear's glory.
As I work through this season of mindfulness I'm finding that the overlooked can bring about unexpected, warm and joyful emotions. Out of the ashes of things long forgotten can come renewed beauty.

I captured this photo six months ago and it was one those occasions where I wasn't aware of my surroundings at first. I was drawn to this abandoned building and after investigating the remains I found myself composing this tangled, broken and unattended moment.
