What's that saying? "Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you are a mile away from them and you have their shoes." A little tidbit from humorist Jack Handey.
It's just that I've been wrestling with what seems like an endless supply of criticism... or judgement. Not personally, but everywhere I turn. The media, social networks, even in church.
Luke 6:37 says, "Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;"
So are we just a little too free with our opinions? Maybe a little too quick with our commentaries? Possibly a bit too nasty with our words?
I'm just raising the question. I'm human and openly have enough of my own foibles. And I certainly wouldn't want to judge anyone, but there's something about all the complaining and negative talk that doesn't feel right.
"Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;"
Are we numb to it because we're surrounded by it? Are we desensitized because our eyes and ears are just inundated with it everyday?
I don't know anymore... now it's starting to feel like I'm judging, or am I condemning, I'm sure if I try hard enough I can come up with an excuse for thinking this way.
Now my heads spinning. It shouldn't be this hard. It really would be a lot easier if I'd just forgive... and be forgiven.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to walk a mile in their shoes... Now to find a size 10.
Pray on,
Eddy
