She said, 'That was really nice what you did.' It surprised her and she said, 'You rarely see it done anymore.' I smiled and replied, 'Why not?' As I walked on by.
You want to know how the world has changed? You want to know how people have changed? You want to know how far we've strayed as a community?
What caught her eye, what surprised her, what she thought was so nice to see, was someone helping an elderly man (who I found out later was ninety-seven years old) with his walker. How discouraging that this was such a rarely seen occurence.
As we waited for a table at our local diner, the gentleman in question was offered a seat before us. He slowly made his way with walker in hand but found it difficult to negotiate the booth.
There was never a question as to whether I should help or not, just how quickly I could get there. Surprised as he was, he graciously welcomed me and thanked me for the helping hand.
Somewhere along the way we've lost the heart of compassion. This isn't an economic issue, it's not a racial, or gender issue, it's not a generational thing, it's an all encompassing world of cold uncaring hearts.
Who’ll be the first to say enough? Who’ll be the first to step up and make a difference?
Say what we want, but do what you will, 'cause only action will make a difference.
Pray on...
