This was my send-off Sunday. My annual month away at our families place in Melbourne Beach, FL. My time to get away and re-charge. I had a good worship leader friend of mine, Joe McArdle, sitting in as he was to fill my shoes for the next three weeks. Everything was ready for my departure. All this while we were welcoming a new interim pastor.
The service was outstanding both from a message and music stand point. Joe and I don't get a chance to worship together much and it was a special morning. And so I left on a really high note.
I was southern bound by new noon time and pulled into Florence, SC around 9pm only to find that tropical storm Debbie had changed from heading west towards Texas as I had heard early that morning, and now slowed to a crawl just off the western coast of Florida.
It was a little difficult leaving this year with our youngest daughter staying home and about to start college next month. My wife and I spent most of the afternoon discussing how we were going to cut some corners the next three years. We listed all the areas we could sacrifice things to help finance her as she's once again going on our payroll.
So now I'm looking at three or four days of extra expenses on the road as this slow meandering storm creeps across the Florida. I asked God to make my decision as easy as possible Monday morning.
As I woke and put on the weather station the first thing I saw was the new tracking for the storm and it was barely out of the Melbourne picture by next weekend. It was easy, turn around and head home, cut the road expenses and enjoy preparing for our daughter's next chapter in her life.
After spending a day talking about sacrificing my wife and I now had a chance to act on it. As I sit writing this from home it was the right decision and I feel great about it. Especially when I saw my daughter's smile this morning.
