Ever Mindful

Last week I was blessed to see God's beauty in ways that in the past I may have taken for granted. In a forty-eight hour period I witnessed a full moon rising out of the Atlantic Ocean (in Ocean Grove, NJ) and also a rock glacier (in Lenhartsville, PA). Both have left me stunned by the magnificent beauty of God's kingdom.

Last Thursday evening I abruptly stopped dinner to drive to the shore to see the moonrise. My wife and I had stumbled onto one about ten years ago while on vacation. It left an indelible impression on both of us, but we had never been able to catch another one.

So this past week we were monitoring the skies over the Jersey shore as a full moon was due. The forecast was rather depressing with lots of late afternoon storms and with poor visibility all week. Then during dinner Thursday night I checked the forecast one last time and a window of opportunity presented itself. Without a second thought we were off. The drive out was relaxing and as we pulled into a very busy town we drove right to the beach where a parking spot was unexplainably waiting. The night that followed was a once-in-a-lifetime event for us. One that easily surpassed what we stumbled upon years ago.

Then on Saturday night I was booked to participate at a christian festival. Working without a band I brought my wife along to make a day of it. While driving we visited some intriguing and inspiring locations all the while just enjoying the moment.

When we arrived we drove up a mountainous terrain to the staging area. As I pulled into the parking area I saw that the event was going to take place alongside an amazing rock glacier. The site was awe inspiring. What better place to sing God's praises then next to one of his beautiful creations. This was a night that won't soon be forgotten.

I'm a month or so into a season of mindfulness and have been experiencing all kinds of things in a brand new way. The daily mindset to appreciate life's little things, the small moments, has opened up my eyes and ears to a wonderfully exciting and different view of the world. It's also led me to re-engage with God's astounding creation.

I woke this morning and quietly found my way to the back porch where the first sounds I heard were God's creation and the vibrating strings of my guitar. Ever mindful I'm continuing my journey.

Pray on,
Eddy
