(A glimpse at the creation of this worship leader's weekly music plan.)
As we begin a new month we also begin a new five week series on transition. On this Labor Day weekend we'll be looking at employment transitions.
As I prayed on gathering songs for this series I was drawn to the changes we face in our journeys and the comfort that God's faithfulness provides us.
It could be the themes or maybe my self awareness, but lately there just seems to be more opportunities to return to some wonderful hymns from the past.
For our gathering song we're going to play Matt Redman's The Heart of Worship. It feels about time. Every once and a while it feels like it's time to quiet down and remind ourselves that worship can resonate without instruments.
We'll be recognizing a new staff member at the beginning of our service this week so there will be a bit of a gap before we move to our opening worship time.
Israel Houghton's Turn It Around will open this portion. A great uptempo message of strength and hope. I'm lowering the key for a second time to make it more accessible to the men.
Key line: All thing are possible for you, all things are possible.
We're gonna follow that by flowing into into Israels arrangement of the hymn Great Is Thy Faithfulness. I've always loved the text to this hymn but never really felt comfortable with it in our setting until I heard his arrangement.
Our communion song will be an offering of mine Lamb of God that draws it's text right from our traditional liturgy, but has a folk/rock vibe that suits the moment well.
We'll be introducing the hymn Be Thou My Vision for the first time at our service. It's been sung at our other services many times so those that have wandered over to our worship time or were raised with it will love this.
The sending song will be another of mine that will be on the new Who We Are Cd. We've worshipped with this a while back as it was inspired by a portion of our Statement of Faith. We're Living The Mystery really speaks to the amazing day to day love, grace and faithfulness that our Father pours out to us each day.
Our numbers will be a little lower this week, but not our love for God.
Pray on,
Eddy
