(A glimpse at the creation of this worship leader's weekly music plan.)
This week's challenge was a little different. For the first time that I can remember, we're having a service of music with no sermon on a Sunday morning.
We have three or four Nights of Worship during the calendar year and this week we're going to be touching some folks who've never connected with that experience.
Because of that fact I'm currently on my third version of the plan. I wasn't sure for most of the week what the theme should be but settled in on one that I'm confident with.
We're also doing the same thing at our 5pm service on Saturday which caused another concern. I didn't want to repeat the same service both nights, though that certainly would have been easier.
Saturday night we'll be doing all hymns. I've been in pre-production on a new recording project which will feature hymns that we've personalized in some way over the years. This seemed like a logical choice as the service convenes in our small chapel.
Sunday's shift is to a writer. Tommy Walker has gifted our church with so many wonderful spiritual moments through his compositions that I decided to take the opportunity to feature his songs.
The difficult part was deciding how to get the list to a manageable number. It took a good three days to draft something that felt good. Right now the texts present a nice journey and the keys flow naturally.
I decided early on that another night of rehearsal was going to be needed so that Sunday morning could just be used for some fine tuning and confidence questions.
So now we're ready to go. All I need to do is get to bed a little earlier all weekend. Check out the Sunday Setlist to get the results.
Pray on,
Eddy
